Annual English Competition Polban
Annual English Competition Polban, or AECP, is a series of English competition activities among senior high school students. AECP is organized by the English Student Association (HIMARIS) of Politeknik Negeri Bandung as the main project of HIMARIS. This event was started since 2006 . In the past, this event was called Annual Festival, but in 2017 this event changed its name to AECP. The changes happened because several things are no longer relevant to the HIMARIS new policy.
HIMARIS created AECP as a forum for members to practice organizing a grand event and a medium for high school students to show their ability in English. This event was also established as an effort to promote the English Department of Politeknik Negeri Bandung to the broader community, especially senior-high-school students as its target new students.
In 2017, the first AECP was led by Fahrul Rozi and Ristanti Ginastillah as project leader and vice leader, with the theme “Unity in Diversity”. Fifty-two (52) high school students from all over West Java and Banten participated in this event. There were four categories for this competition: 1) Debate, 2) Speech, 3) Story Telling, and 4) Writing. All of the events were held at Politeknik Negeri Bandung, exactly at Pendopo Tonny Soewandito Building, P2T Building, and C Building.
The AECP event was improved yearly, starting with West Java and Banten region level only. In 2021, under the leadership of Tegar Aliansyah as the head of the committee, AECP was held more broadly to the national level. This was the first time also AECP was conducted online. Numerous senior high school students from all over Indonesia participated in this event such as from Jakarta, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, and Bali. Nationally, AECP has successfully proved its prominent existence for four years, with the total number of participants reaching 298 (two hundred and ninety-eight) people. Continuing its success, HIMARIS will always conduct this event as one of its top projects.
